History

The library originally opened in its current premises on 8 December 1964, replacing a smaller building in the nearby shopping parade, which had opened in January 1937. It became part of the Chadwell Information Centre, which opened on 18 March 2002. It then became a library and hub and was called the Chadwell St Mary Centre and in 2026 changed its name to Chadwell Library with the community always at its heart.
